About Spike

Spike is an independent publishers based in Liverpool. For over a decade Spike has been discovering and establishing some of the best poets in the country.

 Poets  Glyn Wright and Jean Sprackland published their first collections with Spike before being taken on by major publishers such as Jonathan Cape and Bloodaxe. Both won recognition while still with Spike  – Glyn Wright’s debut won the Aldeburgh First Collection Prize and was shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize.  Jean Sprackland’s collection was shortlisted for the Forward First Collection Prize and and she too has since been shortlisted for the TS Eliot Prize.

Spike continues to seek out new writers and recently published ‘At three o’clock I think of sex and death’ - a pamphlet by Liverpool-based poet Lisa Jones.
